Engine Trouble Again!!!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

Off to Phoenix Motors Prussia Street to have car checked in the morning.

Started it up this afternoon and found a lack of power. Engine Management light came on. Car felt very jumpy and when I lifted the bonnet the engine was rocking back and forth on the mountings. Rang for advice and was told it may be a misfire caused by a faulty plug and had it booked in for 9 am.

Hope that is all it is considering I only had a new timing chain fitted 2 months ago after similar problems with the car.(1.2 HTP)

Coil packs were pretty common on that engine at one time. Mainly had it with SEAT though and not Skoda.

Thanks Lummox

If it was to be coil packs any idea how much they might cost (unfortunately in Euro).

Is it still safe to drive the car about 2 miles to the dealer of should it be towed?

Thanks again in advance.

Depends on how bad the missfire is. I had a coil go down on my old car. One coil did two cylinders on that (wasted spark system), and a short drive to get it checked out killed the catalytic converter. The unburnt fuel from the two cylinders that weren't firing burned inside the cat, causing it to disintegrate...

The dealer told me to drive it as little as possible. Will only drive it in the morning to go to the garage and hope no other problems occur.

If you know which cylinder(s) are not firing you could disconnect the injector to stop the unburnt fuel going into the catalyst

Car was sorted out this morning. 1 of the coil packs was faulty and they replaced all 3. Had the parts covered under goodwill by Skoda and the car back by lunch hour. Asked in the service dept if this has been a common problem and they said they have not come across this happening in the Fabia.

Big thanks to Vincent and Ken in the service dept (Phoenix Motors, Prussia Street) as I need the car to travel north to events in the Special Olympics later this week.
