Tracks not being recognised on SD card - help

Featured Replies

I have my music on SD card (Amundsen) a combination of ripped CDs and iTunes files.

I added some more tracks today and noticed that some of them weren't visible in the car, but they were accessible on the laptop. So, I formatted the card and reinstalled them. Now there's a different set of missing tracks... (both iTunes files and CD tracks)

Any ideas?

I have the same problem. I've got about 2500 files in folders and individual tracks and only about half are visible. Have tried various methods but have given up. Other ppl have many more files and have no problem. For me, it doesn't matter if they're on a card or usb stick, the problem is the same.

There is a thread here that might help, also has a link  to the manual

None of mine (just under 1100) are in folders.

I added around 20 new tracks yesterday and half a dozen weren't visible to the unit.

I formatted the card and transferred everything again, new tracks are visible,  but some old ones have become "invisible"

It's a 32gb card so it's barely a third full, and the card is fully playable on the laptop so the files aren't corrupt.

I believe that there is a limit on the number of individual files that the unit can see.

I have 5,786 Files in 629 Folders, about 125GB and the unit can see them all.

If you put your files in, say, CD folders you should be OK.

Thanks for that, I'll try putting my ripped CDs into album folders, that should reduce the individual number a bit.

@JD52does shuffle still work? Eg, will it play a track from album A then one from album X or does it randomly play all of album A first?

Good question, I've not tried shuffle until now.

Just braved the rain and tried shuffle. It seems to shuffle within the folder you select. If you select a single CD, it will shuffle within that. If you go all the way to the top menu, it will shuffle within the subfolder you select, albums, artists etc.

good luck.

Thanks for checking, I'll have a play around with folders and see if it works for me.

I have quite an eclectic choice in music and drive Mrs Cakemonster insane with skipping to find a track that suits the mood 😀

If you format the card and then just drop all the tracks on to it with no structure at all i think the system would struggle to sort it out.

Described in the thread i highlighted above

Format card/stick

Create one folder on the card/stick

Put one single track in the folder first

Then put folders by artist or album into the first folder but do not have folders within the artist/album folders (shuffle gets lost amongst them)

You can then find the individual track and press shuffle, the system will shuffle everything

Or select a folder and press shuffle and it will shuffle the folder.

Hope that helps.

The difference between your computer reading the card and the car reading the card is that the car cannot "read from root" so  only looks for files it can see.

Finally. make sure the tracks are not DRM protected . Your computer can play them but the skoda system will not play "Some" drm material.

All the acceptable file suffixes are in the manual

It used to cope with it all fine, it seems to have gone pear shaped having gone over 1000 individual files which coincides with the figure in the manual.

I'll have a go at putting some albums/artists in folders and see what happens.

I don't want to lose the random shuffle and the ability to annoy the wife with my constant skipping through tracks!

I have all my albums by artist and album and shuffle randomly plays tracks from different artists / albums.

Well, that took a while to sort into folders, but they're all there!
