Looking to buy Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI SportLine Estate

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am looking to buy a Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI Estate to use as a reliable family car for both short and long journeys.

I have found the following SportLine version on Autotrader and think it is reasonably priced for a 2017 model with only 60k miles and it is also positive that it has only had 1 owner.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202310132957401?sort=price-asc&advertising-location=at_cars&include-delivery-option=on&make=Skoda&model=Superb&page=40&postcode=W14 9TD&radius=1500&fromsra

My concern is that looking at the MOT history it failed in October 2023 due to "Offside Rear Tyre has a bulge, caused by separation or partial failure of its structure" and has subsequently been put up for sale?

It would be great to get people's thoughts on whether they think this is a good car for £14,400?

Thanks,

Ed

I don't think i would be worried about the tyre, on the rear at 60,000 miles it could be an original that has just come to the end of it's life after hitting one too many potholes or been underinflated when towing the caravan.

It appears to be a long way from you though for you to go and have a look.

The mot and timing of sale is probably just to get the best price  for the car,

The one owner has done roughly the same miles each year too which is consistent. has always took it for an MOT ahead of it's expiry date which shows some evidence of care.

You could do with seeing some interior pictures and service history?

Welcome.

1 Registered Keeper (owner if you like)   it could be a dozen or many drivers.  But that is true of any used vehicle.

That’s true, but statistically less probable than 2 drivers (husband & wife), eventually 3 if considering a teenager as young driver in the family.

I wouldnt be worried at a tyre - it would have been replaced to pass the MOT.

Now regarding the service history -

Service record   Flexible oil change service
GB26084C
2018-08-20

4977 mi

Service record   Delivery inspection
GB30155C
2017-12-12  0 mi

The online history only shows 1 service in 2018 so I would be hoping for a lot of paperwork to back up any future services. Which it must have... probably wouldnt be running if it done 55k without a service.

@Bap33True,

not Mr & Mrs Hertz and Europcar Jun. with this one away towing the caravan.

How did you know that the car has been used to tow a caravan?

Sorry for the basic question, but how are you able to check the service history of the car?

To confirm, are you saying because it has only had 1 service this is a major red flag on the car?

It has a towbar and skoda have won towcar of the year awards many times with the caravan club so it's a good bet.

If it’s a rental car, I missed this info, then one point for you. 😉

Regarding tow bar, I know you guys in UK use to tow caravans more often than we do in France. I do have a tow bar but only towed a small trailer to the recycling center less than once a year.

Thus towing is negligible on the wear of my Mk3.

Service history has to be checked by a garage or main dealer.

I am saying there is only 1 service on the online service history, that’s not to say there aren’t others but they would need paper records.

Thank you everyone.

Noting the comments above, do you think I would be better off with one of these options instead? I should have noted that my job means I often travel across the UK so am not concerned about location, I am just focused on getting the most reliable car for the right price.

Do you think any of these standout as a better option that the Sportline advert in the original post?
