Richbrook Gear Shift Surround

Featured Replies

Has anyone bought one of these surrounds? Does anyone know what the fit is like, does it look good? It looks like it's convex and the fabia surround is flat so that would mean a gap underneath it?

If anyone has had experience with them please let me know how they look, a pic would certainly help:)

quick answer no it doesn't fit

Maybe trading standards would like to know about this then??

pass? lol

Mine would not fit, atleast not with out it looking rather nasty. Still have it laying about if anyone wants it! ;)

IIRC it's also for a golf/AUDI A3

I fitted one to my VRS but it did require some modification to the gaiter. I removed the plastic base that is attached to the gaiter & then removed the ash tray and gear stick surround unit.

Once this was out of the car I drilled 4 small wholes where the screws from the chrome surround would go and fastened the chrome surround to the plastic gear stick surround while it was out of the car to make sure it went together ok (this also makes it easier to fit the surround in situ as all the wholes are tapped etc).

I then took it to bits again and returned the plastic surround to the car and pierced 4 holes in each corner of the leather gaiter roughly where the screws from the chrome surround would go and used them to retain the leather in place.

Worked really well as you can see from the picture below :D

Edit - when the screws are tightened when the whole thing is in place, it does pull the plastic in a little and there is only a very small gap in the center part of the chrome surround... hardly noticeable!!

I did exactly the same. It now fits BUT its not meant to fit a vRS. Richbrook dont tell you this. I complained to ebay and they came down on the side of the seller. ie They said it fitted a Fabia. Any way to cut a long story short. I did the modifications as described and it looks really good.

PS I complained at the decision and they never replied to my messages. E Bay can be good but if things go wrong. WATCH OUT. They dont give a toss!!

But can you shut your ashtray?

Yes it can be made to fit, but it over hangs too much either side, which for me just didn't cut it!

Yeah, works as normal, doesn't overhang the plastic at all.... just takes a little time sizing/positioning it on the plastic surround.... it's easier to do this when you remove it from the car.

With me, it was bl**dy determination it would fit and once I had thought about the options.... it was nee botha

Edit - I presume you mean end to end overhang. When aligning the surround with the part out the car, it allowed me to get it exact and it fits flush and the ashtray lid doesn't catch the chrome surround at all.
