Octavia IV 2023 audio: memory card wirg directories seen as "flat", all files together

Featured Replies

Hello!

I recently had to upgrade from Octavia 2020 to Octavia IV 2023 (workplace leased car, had it been mine I would hold it for few more years).

On the old model I had a memory card with songs formatted as VFAT with *.mp3 files arranged in directories according to performer (one level of directories).

After connecting the same memory card through a USB card reader the audio system sees all files as "flat", without any directories, sorted by files names alphabetical order.

What can I do to get the same structure I had before?

Is VFAT recognized OK by the new model or I should reformat as something else?

I attempted to make selection into prefered singers but only got more copies of "unknown artist" (or something like that) added.

Somehow  the "prefered" selection process doesn't appers to be too intuitive...

Thanks in advance!

I miss the SD card slot. I used to have my music on an SD car in the mk3

There is a thread somewhere on here which describes the usb stick format and directory structure for mp3 files, and IIRC, playlists too.

If I come across it I’ll add a link; otherwise search the forum.

The search function on this forum is dreadful imo.

I just typed the phrase ‘directory structure’ (without the ‘ ‘) and this was the third item listed.

Not that hard!

Very good. I have found it dreadful in the past compared to other meassageboards.

Not as bad as the media search function in the actual car 😀

If you have voice control give it a try, works well in my car (except for the satnav).

I've got voice control. Have a lot of music on my USB stick. Every single time I start the car the system has to index the music again. Can take up to 5-10 mins of driving before I can use voice control to get it to select a song, artist or album.

Getting fed up with the "media selection is unavailable at this time" response

Kaza,

You have to set your media folders up by having folders by artist and then album and make sure the tags are all correct on the files.

When it indexes them you can view by album or artist on screen. It defaults to song order on first setup. Go up folder to see album folder

Yeah, frustrating - big time!

I'm pretty sure somewhere in the thread I linked above I mentioned the structure I use, and that works fine. If you can't find it let me know and I'll have a look on my USB stick and see how it's set up (I can't remember 🙄).

What sort of USB sticks do you guys use? Really needs to be something small so it doesnt stick out too much.
