Silverstar or Vision Plus?

Featured Replies

I got the winky warning light to tell me a bulb had blown this morning. Had a check around and one of the Silverstars I fitted when I got the car has blown a filament, so it's lasted a year and couple of weeks.

I'm very happy with the improved performance. I'm wondering if the short lifespan is typical of the Osrams. I had Philips VisionPlus on my Bora and they lasted over 4 years without a failure.

I'm also tempted to get some 100W main beams bulbs while I'm at it. Will the standard wiring be OK?

Interesting as I had the reverse experience - my VisionPlus bulbs blew after a few months whereas I've never ever replaced Silverstars :D

I've never had any problems with the standard wiring and 100W bulbs and I tend to do a lot of night driving where they are on for long periods of time :D

I think with bulbs its 'how long is a piece of string' as to how long they last. Any uprated bulb will be an improvement over the original bulb. I use the Phillips Gt150 Bulbs with the Phillips +30% main beams. Seems to work well looks quite cool with the blue tint. I also changed my indicator bulbs to the Phillips silvers. Really makes the car look good without that horrid orange bloom effect that you get with the normal bulbs.

The other bulb is still working. I was tempted to pull it out and have a good look .. but if it ain't broke don't mess with it. Years of IT support knowledge kicking in there! Handily I've kept the OEM ones I removed so popped one back in to keep it legal.

Had a look at Powerbulbs and the Philips are a fiver more so it's looking like Silverstars again. They've got some own brand PowerPlus +50% on BOGOF which are tempting as Dad wants some for his Golf Plus. Hmm.

Any discount codes doing the rounds? I got 30% off via UKMKIVs last time but they don't have a valid code at the moment.

I fitted the Philips silver indicators all round when I got the car. I don't usually mess with the looks of a car but it's a vast improvment on a silver vRS.

I have all standard bulbs, use my lights alot, and they all lasted just over a year, so sounds about right to me! All my bulbs died in the same month, with the car 13 months old! (except the tail lights, reverse and fog, they haven't died yet..)
