Does anyone know how to interpret the camshaft timing degrees from enginecontrol (how loose chain ), on 1.2 - 1.4 tsi ?

Hi,

I was once shown these timing measures from the camshaft position sensor on my 1,2 tsi with chain.
I was told that what was important, was that the angles where not to big.
But what does that mean ?
I know that these values is used for the engine to have correct timing, and therefore it should say something about how stretched the chain is - but compared to what ?

Can anyone help med getting a better understanding ?
