PD100 - When does cambelt need changing?

Featured Replies

Is it at 60k? Anything recommended to be changed at the same time?

Ta,

Steve

60k, inc tensioner.

60K or 4 years which ever is sooner I believe.

OK, that's what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation guys.

Steve

I've had my PD100 fron new in 01 and was under the impression that the cambelt would need replacing at 90,000 km. For me, that would be at the 6th year service.

However I have this morning received a letter from my supplying dealer:

Toothed Belt Change Intervals

"Skoda Auto UK now recommends that the toothed cam belt should be changed on all models every four years, even if the mileage criteria has not been reached"

Interesting that the PD100 is 60k miles yet the PD130 is 80k miles.

But even more confusingly not for my Golf PD130 where the manual states the cambelt should be changed at 90,000km (60,000mls) & it was ! :D

Regardless of what the manuals say I will change at 60,000mls anyway for peace of mind & doing the water pump & tensioner while I'm at it. That's what I did for my Golf & that's what I'll be doing for SWMBO's Fabia PD100 in 15,000 miles or so when it nears the 60,000 mile mark.

So next change at 120k... or sooner after the first 60k??

So next change at 120k... or sooner after the first 60k??

120k at the latest for the next belt change for me on the Golf but regular inspections & sooner though if it looks like it needs it at any time ie any signs of oil contamination (camshaft & crankshaft oil seals don't last for ever you know) etc. :D

I wonder why Skoda have changed their recommendations for cam belt replacement on the Fabia?

Does anyone know of a belt failure under 60K, irrespective of age?

Not a failure, but I think Jason posted up some pics of the cambelt that he replaced at 60k on his PD100 (as was!) and it looked pretty worn....

i thought skoda's had timing chains?

i thought skoda's had timing chains?

Think that's only the smaller petrol engines - 1.2-12v and 1.4-v?

Chris

i thought skoda's had timing chains?

The old 'Skoda' engine (1.3 and 1.4 MPI) do and the new 1.2 does.

i was getting worried as mine is a 1.4 and was told it had a chain! sorry just me being thick.

See DGW's recent post in the Ask a Tech forum regarding timing belt intervals.

117k think id better get it changed quick sharpish then. if 120k at latest.
