power steering problem?

Featured Replies

need some help for some reason the steering wheel is becoming hard to turn it mainly happens when i am braking the steering needs a good yank to get it turning then it is ok:confused: it doesnt do it all the time but it does do it quite a bit. i have took it to a garage i use and he said it is an electrics problem and i would need to take it to skoda but he deffinately noticed it:mad: so does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be before i go to skoda???

If they are electrically assisted maybe a switch has gone, or doesn't catch as soon as it should. Could just be a loose switch.

Sorry I'm not more helpful.

There's a lot of info on here about the possible failure of the PAS sensor on some models and the effect.

More info? eg model, year, warning light indicator showing ... etc

it is a fabia 1.4 8v comfort 2001 there is no warning indicator light showing but it says in the manual that if the power steering fluid was low that there would be no warning light for that.

is the power steering fluid under the battery and if so how do i check it? as i was told i should check it when the engine is running but i would not be able to do that because i would need to take the battery out the check the fluid!

You dont need the engine running. Remove the battery and tray and dip the level.

A sensor and/or level fault may not bring on the light.
