Rear doors won't unlock

Featured Replies

Guys,

The rear doors on my Mk2 Fabia won't open. (OK, it's my wife's car but that makes no difference - I still get to wave the spanners at it.) Google tells me that the problem is common and it involves the rear door opening mechanism becoming jammed and thumping the doors while unlocking them  will cause them to free up and open, but this hasn't worked for me. I have the doorcards off both sides and can see the lock units in the doors but despite hitting them hard and repeatedly with a mallet they simply won't open. They haven't failed at the same time; one side stopped working a week or so ago and the other one has stopped working in the last couple of days. It failed gradually; sometimes it would work, then most of the time it wouldn't work and now it won't work at all.

If the thumping method doesn't work, what do you do next?

I can see instructions on this site about how to cut a hole in the plastic casing of the lock motor and then wind the deadlock mechanism back but I don't think that there is a deadlock on the car.

I have followed the instructions on this video about how to drill a small hole in the door metal to withdraw a screw which then makes everything work but when I did do then I found that the thing in question wasn't a screw, it was a brass-topped pin which wouldn't unscrew, so no game. (The instructions are for a Polo rather than a Skoda so I wonder if this is relevant.)

If I activate the locking mechanism while touching the lock body I can feel it twitch and hear it whirr so I don't believe that there has been a motor failure or a connection failure; it feels as if it is trying to unlock but just can't.

So .... what do I do next?

All suggestions welcome, Thanks.

Probably damage to the wiring between the door and the body. If you have the door card off, you could try applying 12 V to the central locking motor to open it.

Had this issue with the drivers side rear door, I bought a can of WD40 with the straw firtted, got a cloth and lifted the rear door handle and put the cloth underneath the handle to stop WD running down the door I then srayed in the small gap left it for 10 mins then gave it another good spray I had my mate to keep pressing the lock unlock on the remote while I  spraded and thumpded the door after a few goes the door unlocked, i went ahead and then removed the door card the door lock was then removed after taking the glass out I had to replace the lock which was purchased new from ebay when re fitting covered it in silicone grease, i did the other side before it got stuck much easier when you have the door open give it a try

Consider checking the door lock actuators and their linkages for obstructions or loose connections. If issues persist, seeking professional help from a mechanic or Skoda service center may provide a solution. In a hurry to finish your paper? Try https://lastminutewriting.com/ They helped me with a last-minute assignment, and the result was fantastic. The writer was very professional, and the paper was well-written and delivered on time. The customer support team was also very helpful. I'll definitely use their services again.

central locking replaced and working... magic! however, I stupidly unscrewed the small Torkx bolt that is used to remove the rear part of the door handle... and a semi circular piece of metal and the screw fell into the inside of the door - so I took the door card/insides off and retrieved them... the trouble is, I cannot find anything about how that part of the door lock goes back together... I assume that I have to take off all of the door liner/door lock etc to access the area.... an ideas?
