Fabia Boot Opening Problems

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have posted this before, and wondered if there is any more information on this problem?

I have a mechanical boot lock which is released (or should be!) by the lever down the right hand side of the drivers seat . The car is a year 2000 one,and I brought it secondhand. THe lever released the boot lid for the first few months, and now my Wife has to pull open the lid while I hold the lever in the up position . The cable moves quite freely in its sheath, and I have tried adjusting the lock mechanism position , which I have lubricated , without success.Any Ideas Please?

thanks

Andy

Has the release cable or latching mechanism ever been replaced or the rear of the car hit hard? Something could be out of line or stretched and it would be possible for it to work for awhile until parts of the latch mechanism became worn down from an umproper fit. ?? Does it shut properly?

Hi thanks for your input, I brought the car secondhand 4 years ago, it has 36K mileage,no accident damage ,or parts replaced. Boot shuts fine everytime. As mentioned previously when the lever is pulled, the lock allows the boot to release, but only to what I call the safety position , like a drivers door that hasn't fully shut ,and is being held on the 'first latch' .I have looked from inside, and the alignment is perfect. I have tried moving the lock clasp inwards and outwards. I might remove the cable at the lock end ,and tie a temporary wire to pull open the lock from inside the car ,this would prove whether the cable is the problem.

Hi,

Sorry, i have no answer to your prob but you are not alone as i can definitely relate to it!

i have a 2001 fabia with similar boot mechanism and of late its become very hit and miss - i pull the lever and sometimes it opens, sometimes it doesnt! if i didnt know better i'd say it does it on purpose as it seems to delight in not opening when i have a boot full of frozen food or when trying to open it in public!

There doesnt seem to be anything physically wrong with it and it's had no damage of any kind, i wonder if its just yet another part that wears with age?

Sorry i couldnt help but maybe someone can give us both a hint about this!

Hi,thanks for your input ,you could try adjusting the cable on the latch in the boot , perhaps noting its position ,so you can return to it. I have already tried this for my fault without success.
