2011 Fabia 1.6 TDI DPF replacement

Featured Replies

Hello folks,

This is my first post and I would like some clarification on something please.

Today we have replaced the entire exhaust system on my partners 1.6 TDi Fabia. The reason it has been replaced is because the exhaust was very rotten and holed in several places.

I got hold of a nearly new aftermarket cat/dpf unit off eBay which had all sensors and probes still attached.

The mid pipe and back box was from a local factors.

Sub frame and steering rack off it is dead easy to change.

However I was expecting issues with fault lights and limp mode when I started the car because of the need to reset the DPF counter. But I started the car and it seems to run fine, plenty of power and no limp mode or warning lights.

Is there anything I need to be concerned about and do I need to get it plugged in and the DPF reset and differential sensor calibrated or something?

I have and obdeleven scanner but I don't think it can do these things without paying a subscription.

I was building up to have a headache once it was all fitted and it hasn't been the case this far. Should I be concerned? Thanks.

Kind regards,

Graham

I’d say if it ain’t broke don’t try and fix it tbh!!

it will tell you if it’s unhappy. THEN come back with fault codes (your current doohickey/app pairing ought to read ‘em fine) and full engine data and somebody who knows what they’re talking about will likely (hopefully??) respond reasonably quick-like 😉🤗

It’s a piece of cake to reset (using VCDS & vag-com ODB/USB cable here as my brother happened to have one. Swore it was proper like. It’s definitely not kosher 😂 works tho 🤔🫡) but - given that it realises within 500 miles I’ve lied to it when I reset mine to clear the limp mode + 3 dash lights - I’d expect it to carry on happily until/unless it actually clogs…. I’ve seen posts from peeps running original DPF at 200k and more unless my memory fails me so not counting any ‘usage since new’ figures but pinging off actual readings AFAIK!

And unless you have the relevant numbers from the previous vehicle, you’ll only be able to reset to zeros as if a brand new unit which will be even further off than pretending you changed nothing and carrying on regardless 😂🫡

Hi btw 🫣 new here but not new on t’interwebs (if you never dialed in to a bbs for “vital driver updates” that took hours for a couple megs… um, be happy i guess? T’was utterly crepe!)

And I know NOTHING ABOUT CARS!!

..in general. If I’ve owned it I’ll have taken apart and put back together most accessible subsystems (I am the poster child for ADHD on far too many of the days 🤦‍♀️😂😎) and rabbit-hole-researched it to death.

Okthxbye 🫡
