Ignition Live/Permanent live 12V sockets

Featured Replies

Seen it asked many times on forums how to change permantent live sockets to switched live for the use of dash cams etc. but never seen a solution. Every single VAG I have owned has had permant live sockets but for some reason my B8 Passat has Ignition live only which is not how I like it as odd times I want to charge things while I'm in the car with the ignition off or while the car is locked.

Well I saw a video explainging that the fusebox is designed so you can move the 12V socket feed fuse up or down one to feed it from the ignition live bus bar or permanent live bus bar. Had a look today and it appears to be correct, I now have permanent 12V sockets.

Not sure how long this has been a thing but just thought I would share it as I've never seen it mentioned anywhere else.

Hmm was this the boot one you changed?

Just the one in the front, on other cars I’ve had the boot one and the one in the back were on separate circuits but I’ll have to check

Ah it’s the boot one I’m more interested in but not sure it’s possible, to be honest like you said the front is possible and I’m sure others have asked and it wasn’t.

Unless it’s different years can do it, mines a 2016, what’s yours?

The boot sockets in all three Superbs I’ve had (MKI, II and III) have been permanently live.

They are permanent and the alternate position is not wired in the fuse box, you can move the fuse half a position bit it will not work, it did work on my previous Q2 so it seems it may be a cost-saving exercise.
