Yeti 2013 1.2 auto DSG failure

Hi folks, I have been reading some of the threads on the forums regarding the failure of a DSG (dry?) box.

 

Unfortunately, it looks like the same thing has happened to me. The car is a '53 plate auto 1.2, with just over 100K miles. 

 

I was driving around some single track country lanes yesterday, always in D, and came to a hairpin uphill bend. I eased off the throttle, and then tried to accelerate, but there was no drive, and the engine revs dropped. Luckily, I could roll back to safety into an area off the road. I tried turning off and turning on again. On opening the bonnet, and moving the gear lever. I could see the external linkage moving. I checked the handbook for the transmission fuse (#35) but that was fine. After about a 5 hour wait, an AA patrol turned up. He took the battery off to try and reset the transmission ECU, but without success.

 

Moving the gear selector to +/-, I tried moving through the gears manually, but the dashboard display constantly showed D7, and then a flashing spanner symbol appeared.

 

The car was recovered back home, and I'll be contacting my local independent garage on Monday. There is also a clutch specialist near to where I live, but I think that they only deal with manual transmission, and not a DSG. 

 

Reading the comments, it seems that a specialised garage may be required. The bodywork on the car is in very good condition, and depending on costs it still may be worthwhile to repair the box. Question is, can they be repaired, or is it usual for a replacement o be sourced? Again, not sure on how much the work may cost. 

 

Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

I assume a 13 plate / 2013. 

 

It not only needs an Auto transmission engineer but one experienced in DQ200 DSG,s.

Could be the MCU, the Clutches, the clutch forks so the diagnosis is required.

Checked for leaks.

 

If it is a 2013 it was not part of Service Campaign 34F7 which was 2009-2012 DQ200,s.

It might have been part of 34H5, 2013-2015 which was a Software Update.  That was a preventative measure because of Pressure Issues and failures.

Check if that was ever done between 2017 & now.

 

The common issue there is the Actuator.  Repair Kits are available.

MCU repairs are as well.   Clutch Accuator Solenoid etc.

 

It might even need Clutch Packs replaced.    Get the specialist to diagnose.

Many thanks for the response Ootohere. It is a late 2013 plate. I have owned it from new, and nothing has been done on the transmission at all, including the 2017 onwards software update. 

 

It was originally serviced for the first 3 years by the local Skoda dealership where it was purchased, but has had no recall. There was no warning before the failure, and none of the symptoms mentioned in some of the threads.

If 34H5 was relevant to your DSG then if the car was going into a Main Dealers they should have made you aware of it.

It did not always show here.

Looking at the MOT history, the car was registered on 20th January 2014.

I have checked the VIN on the Skoda recall page, and there have not been any issued for my car.

 

I'll be ringing a few local auto gearbox businesses tomorrow and see if any are equipped with the knowledge to deal with it.

Just an update on this:

 

A friendly mechanic used his OBD reader, which came up with a generic I believe P0481 gearbox issue for Sensor/pressure switch transmission fluid pressure A, Unlikely signal / Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch 1. No other alerts on the OBD, albeit strangely enough, the orange (not red) ABS warning light came up on the dashboard display, which I had not seen before.

 

I contacted a local garage that concentrates on VW and Skoda, and he reckons it is probably the mechatronic unit, and likely to be between £1100 to £1600 plus VAT for the unit, plus labour, oils etc and reprogramming. I think I need to raid the kids piggy banks!
