Navigation upgrade to CarPlay limited by iPhone model

Featured Replies

The forum has helped me identify that my navigation system could be upgraded to CarPlay. I was surprised at the £200 unlock price at the dealership. Additionally, they said only iPhone X or early would work with the unlocked CarPlay.

Is this correct information? What is the user experience of others? (I have an iPhone 13.)

Definitely not correct, I have an iPhone 12 Pro which works perfectly with CarPlay.

Thanks. Am I right that it is USB only (not Bluetooth). Does it work well? Worth the £200?

I only have a wired connection in my 2015 octavia. However, I bought Carlink 5.0 2air that I plug in under usb and the phone then connects wirelessly.

I mainly use the AA, but I tested the CP on my work phone and it also worked without comment

Brilliant, and iPhone is newer than iPhone X? I am guessing it is, as iPhone X is quite dated. :) Thanks for the link @otacon3

Yes it's USB only but there are several dongles available that plug in to the USB and allow wireless CarPlay.

I use this one CPlay2Air

Update: I opted to try the MIB Toolbox hack and I now have CarPlay functionality without the dealership. I can't say it was a straight-forward process in my case as I ran into every exception that others have noted, but in the end, it now works (so far not wireless).  The dealership ultimately helped me save £200 with their incorrect statement that my iPhone was incompatible (iPhone 13pro). I am assuming that the technician looked at the requirements for SmartLink or MirrorLink rather than CarPlay.

I've got several bulletins but on my other phone, something about iOS versions, you need to have 14 or later.
