Timing chain tensioner question MK3 2015 TSI

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am looking to buy a second hand MK3 VRS TSI 2015 with 83k miles on the clock and am a bit worried about the dreaded timing chain ive read alot about.

Does anyone know if this year would have had the revised tensioner?

I think that problem was common on the earlier TSI engined MkII model. The MkIII onwards TSl can have issues with a weeping water pump, so ask if it's been changed , check the coolant bottle water level along with routine service including DSG fluid change, if it's fitted. It's a great engine, very smooth.

My previous car was a 2015 vRS TSI (EA888 G3) and had long superseded previous versions tensioner concerns.  As Redboy says, it's a great engine 👍

Make sure the heater works, and if the header tank has 'mit Silikat' on it, make getting any silica bag out of the tank an early priority.
