Coding a new key

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I bought a used 71 plate Enyaq IV but it came with only 1 key. Am I able to buy a fob and code it myself from the working one? If so, how? I'm petrified of losing the only key and the ball-ache that would follow as a result!

Many thanks.

Did you buy from a dealer? Insist they provide you with a second key.

Unfortunately I don't know if you can code a new key yourself but I suspect this is very unlikely to prevent criminal elements doing the same.

Thanks for the reply. I've done it before with a previous car (think it was the Mondeo but don't quote me on that) - you need the original and to be inside the car to do it so security risk is reasonably low.

I bought from a general dealer, not direct from Skoda - I was aware there was only 1 key so can't reasonably ask them to sort it.

Guess I'm gonna have to ask Skoda. Not looking forward to that bill though!

I done it on an old 2007 Roomster. It was a 2 step thing, you had to code the key fob so the open door buttons functioned and the other step was matching to the immobiliser so the key could start the engine. I remember I had to immobiliser match all my keys together as it was a clear and relearn action for 1 to 4 keys. You needed pin numbers that VW used to give you when you brought the car. VW stopped supplying those numbers and now the dealers have to use VWs server linked ODIS OBD system to get those from central servers. Even the dealer can't see them, it's all hidden behind software.

Saying that auto locksmiths do it, so there's obviously other methods available.
