Wobbly Xenons

Featured Replies

Guys,

On my Octy2 I have the Xenon lights. At night, the beam seems to wobble when I hit sharp bumps in the road. The headlight unit itself wobbles a bit but I don't know if it is something else. Anyone else get this?

I get it on my vRS every now and again, it's the self adjusters trying to cope with the change in the cars "pitch" ....... or at least thats my best guess :)

Yeah mine wobble a little over some of the more severe bumps, the beam shakes and then stabilises straight away. It must be the self levelling mechanism as it obviously has to move.

What do you mean by the headlight unit wobbling? Please elaborate :)

BLOODY HELL!!!!!!!

Thats the most 56k unfriendly avatar ever!!!

I think it needs a trim :D

Thought my laptop had crashed couldn't get the page to load:rofl:

They might just want adjusting and the base setting carried out with diagnostic equipment,

I just got the worlds biggest picture of a motorbike on my screen lol

It filled the screen and then some and my laptop is on a res of 1400x1050

LOL, sorry folks, trimmed it down then uploaded the biggun :-)

normal service now resumed :D

Getting back on topic: :P

When I switch on my Xenons they dip right down and shudder for a second and then rise back up to the normal level position, I presume thats the self levelling doing a check on the beam level so it knows whats what.

I wonder how long you could have got away with that avatar before a mod slapped your wrist.

Xenons - mine do that as well m8, Lummox will be the man with the knowledge but I would say your presumption is correct.

Yeah I think you're right. It's just one of my other Xenon equiped cars doesn't do it.

When I refered to the unit wobbling, I discovered this using the age old engineering principle of giving it a good thump. Part of the quick release mechanism I think.

Ah, it was the whole fitting that was loose.

There are two different types of beam movement, there is the change in beam angle from the self levelling when the ar$e end of the car dips and rises and there is the sudden judder over the sharp bumps. The latter must be the mechanism being jarred from the shock.

My Vauxhall Vectra's headlamps did this too. The lamps have to able to react to the pitch and roll of the car. This is why they will judder slightly over sharp bumps. Totally normal.
