glow plugs

Featured Replies

hi, can anyone tell me what make and part number glow plugs i will have fitted in my (2013 mk2 face lift superb 2.0tdi cr 170bhp 4x4) ?

i had a check engine light come on yesterday 1st light that has ever come on so took it strait to the indi garage that i use and he plugged his diagnostics in and came up with number 3 cylinder glow plug was faulty, so will need to get it replaced, am i right in thinking that the car will not do its regens if a glow plug is not working properly ? is there a way of getting the make and part number for the glow plugs in my car before they are taken out?

cheers kev

Have not heard of that concerning regen actually. Glow plugs are primarily for pre heating diesel when it is cold and not for regen purposes. Have been driving around for years with a bad glow plug earlier, only 3/4 worked, and regen happened as usual since that demands a warm engine, cooling temp above 70 degrees and a soot level above specs for automatic regen. have also performed a "forced regen when driving" on this vehicle with bad glow plug. So guess not.

It was actually a bit slow starter when outside temp reached below -20 degrees celsius, but after 2 glowing periods it started as normal.

Partsnr should be: 059 963 319 AB for engine code CBBB CLJA,CFFB CFGB CAYC

thanks for reply, its just that i was told the car will not do its own regen if there is any problems with the glow plugs or the glow plug relay. i thought that may be the case, when i cold started it in the morning the car just started strait away as normal, but no check engine light came on and didn't come on the rest of the day, so i thought it may have wanted to do a regen the other day when the light came on as it wasn't able to do the regen why one of the glow plugs where faulty.

No need for engine to do a regen if soot values are within specs in the dpf filter.

I had an intermittent fault with one glow plug which was on its way out but didn't give a fault on all cold starts and was told by the indy who looks after my car that glow plug fault would inhibit dpf regen.  Was working away at the time so whilst I was waiting to change the glow plugs I simply monitored the dpf status and if I knew it was due to regen on current trip, I simply reset the glow plug fault if one had been triggered when engine started from cold and it then regenerated fine.  I have read that the glow plugs are used for more than just initial cold start and are an essential part of the emissions control which I guess is why a fault impacts in what looks to be an unrelated system

that's what i have been told, i was trying to see if i could find out on one of the sites on line what make and part number is fitted to my car before it goes into the garage so i can make shore the correct ones are fitted ? i was hoping there would be a site that i could enter my vin number or something to see what is fitted in my car?

Not necessarily suggesting you purchase from them (although their prices are very good as long as you stick below the 130 odd quid limit to avoid custom charges) but Skoda parts web site has always worked for me and let's you upload your car details to search for compatible parts.  Plus they have native English speaking UK based agent who is really helpful and knowledgeable

Don't think there are many variations in the glow plugs for 170 CRs like yours (you car is identical age/spec to my 4x4 estate) and suspect will be these:

Patrick would be able to 100% confirm

No worries, likely worth changing all four glow plugs as if one has failed then the others likely aren't too far behind
