Skoda Fabia Abs Hydraulic Contol Unit

Featured Replies

Is it normal/acceptable for a 5 year old 'Y' plate Skoda Fabia Comfort (16V) which has done 65000 miles to require a new ABS Hydraulic Control Unit?

My local SKODA dealer has given me a price of

It's history is fairly normal, Piston Rings (On 16v), ARB and The power steering sensor are common. It is an MOT Failure for the ABS warning light to be showing, but if it hasn't lit up on the dash you will probably get away with it.

As for ABS, I'm afraid someone else will have to answer, I know nothing about it, apart from the fact that it's flippin useful. My thought on it though is that if this part is activated/In use only during emergency stops then you would have to have done an incredible amount of emergency stops to get that kind of wear and tear on it in just 5 years.

If the ABS check does not cycle through according to the testers data, then it will be an MOT fail, the tester would have to be blind not to notice that it has ABS fitted.

I have never come across one wanting a replacement before, why does it need a new unit?

Thanks for the replies. It would not have to a new unit, i'm just trying to source a replacement unit which is reasonably economical

I had one replaced on a 16v Fabia after 12 months and few if any emergency stops where the ABS intervened. I do think it was the dealer searching for an answer to an ongoing fault rather than a required replacement but as it was a warranty job I wasn't worried.

One thing the dealer told me then was that the control unit and the pump have to be changed at the same time on the 16v cars. I never understood why but it probably goes some way to explaining the OTT price of the part. Have a search on google for skoda spares or something like skospares - someone else will be more familiar with the specific site I'm trying to remember as they might have it cheaper.

Something you might find useful to know is that the dealer managed to change both within a day.

I have changed quite a few ABS control units, have had the light come on and a check sum error fault has been stored. Its an internal fault with the control unit. Usually the control unit comes complete with the ABS pump assembley.
