Maps Update - Amundsen MIB2 - Format SD car?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Can anyone help with how I go about updating the Maps, as the USB port in my Octavia does't like my phone/android auto - a common problem with no real solution so far as I can see.

The guide says I have to format the SKoda SD card, but to me that means it deletes everything off there? Surely it needs something to remember it came from the car in the first place?

Anyway, I'm reluctant to Format anything until I know I am sure of what to do.

Thanks in advance

First save the entire contents of the SD card onto your PC, then you have a backup.

Then as the guide says format the SD card (this is much quicker than deleting all files when you use quick format).

Then having unzipped the downloaded maps on your PC copy all the unzipped files to the SD card.

I've done this twice a year for the last 8 years with no problems.

The Amundsen will only read maps off a genuine VAG (Skoda) SD card and formatting does not destroy the embedded information that identifies it as a genuine SD card.

Many thanks!

I'll give it a go!

It's the CID (Card IDentification) that determines if the SD card can be used for maps or not. Formatting won't change or delete the CID so it's perfectly safe to do so.

There is a guide here:

If you're worried about formatting the card, just delete the contents, that's what I do.
