Octavia vrs dag gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am in the process of swapping my bmw 3 series for an Octavia vrs mk4. I’ve read lots of positive reviews on them and test drove one recently. They tick a lot of boxes for me. However what is a concern is that I’ve read there seems to be a common issue with the dsg gearbox which has got me worried.

I am due to get my new car next week from the Skoda dealership. It comes with 2 years warranty. Is there any checks I can do when I go look next week before I commit to buy? Ironically I was supposed to test drive another one the other week and that had a gear shift selector fault ! 65k miles and 21 plate. The one I’m looking at is a 71 plate with under 10k on the clock.

Welcome.

Have the Sales Executive show you in writing that the 2 year warranty covers the DQ381 7 speed wet clutch DSG,  that is the DSG against failures and unlimited cover be it the MCU / Mechatronic Control unit or the clutches or anything.

The VAQ front diff servicing is supposedly now at 2 years / 20,000 & no longer 3 years / 30,000 miles, so has that been done?

Has the brake fluid been changed?

?

Are they advertising with FMDSH or FSH yet not Serviced to the Manufacturers Recommendations, Guidelines, Advice, Spec or Schedule,

yet extending the warranty?

Thanks for the reply. This is the service history certificate I was sent. Car was registered in December 2021, had a multi point check in June 2022 then a brake fluid change and oil service in April 2024. 1 previous owner. I’m guessing the initial 5000 miles was one of the Skoda car salesman using it until it was sold to its first owner in the June? I’ll need to confirm this.

Not serviced to Manufacturers Recommendations if it has a VAQ Diff (Front)

So they want to be getting that done.

Someone here will tell you if a 2021 vRS 245 has a VAQ diff.   I am pretty sure it has.

Those selling them should know.
