Tailgate rubber

Featured Replies

Is there somewhere that supplies the rubber seals for skodas particularly for the mk 2 saloon tailgate , surely there cant be that many types i would imagine most cars use a similar product like tyres are not made for a particular model of car ,my tailgate seems to clang down as though the rubber needs renewing to puff it up (i know what i mean) lol

what was your reason for replacing and did it do what you wanted it to do .i do wonder wether its rubber thats worn out with it being a low mileage car or wether some adjustment is needed

Try the adjustable rubber bump stops on bottom corners of the boot lid. Not heard of the rubber seal deterioration to that extent. Mines 20 years old now.

I replaced it because I thought it was the cause of a leak...   It wasn't...   That turned out to be something else.

so where was the leak and how did you sort it,my back screen gets moisture on the inside where is that coming from ?

Give rubber seal and boot lid where it touches a good clean with hot soapy water. When bone dry use a good Silicone spray/lubricant on a cloth and give it a good dose. It helps it to stop freezing shut in the winter too.

Re the water ingress? Dunno. We have old cars. Bungs perish. Seals leak. Aircon not as efficient.  Damp weather. Leak from rear screen wash pipe. List is endless but have a good look round. Mines the same and I've checked everything.  Just a damp musty smell. I've learned to put up with it.

Giving your screen a good clean with a glass cutter like Autoglym glass polish and then wash with soapy water and dry with old newspapers can help reduce the buildup a bit.
