Does it make a difference?

Featured Replies

Ive just started a money jar to replace the standard tyres and alloys off my furbie

with a set of toyos and OZ Racing Ultra Leggera ,due to the light weight of the ultraleggeras

ive noticed threads on briskoda about weight/speed ratio

So am intreiged if the new wheel set up will give any noticable pull or performance

or am i better of investing the

Yep - reducing unsprung weight is a good move.

And also, you can get a decent exhaust for a lot less than

Lower weight of the wheels certainly should help. The Fabia isn't exactly light anyway, let alone the PD lumps, and by removing back seat, spare wheel (unless you have LPG in there like Jason or myself :P ) can help a fair bit.

If you've driven a small-engined car before, you can find out roughly how much difference it makes by adding a couple of passengers. The car will feel dog-slow, you will probably have to change down a lot quicker and up later, it won't feel like it's gonna stop etc. The difference is less noticable in a higher powered car but the engine/chassis/brakes still have to work with more mass.

Mine has soundproofing added which adds weight, and a big ICE setup does too (haven't got one of those). Easy options that are free would be removal of spare wheel & rear seats.

Performance exhaust will not help much with weight, they're heavy (so is the OEM one, btw, very good quality material). You'll get a slightly quicker spoolup and less restriction and possibly more noise, with a custom remap you could take advantage of that :)
