Looking at buying a new Superb

Featured Replies

Hello

We are looking at buying a new Skoda Superb SE L. Ideally we would like the 2 litre diesel, but right now there are a lot of very good offers on “in stock” vehicles, not one of which is a diesel. My question is, what do those of you with the 1.5 TSi engine think of it. Primarily, does it feel underpowered and what is the “real” mpg like. I would also be interested to know if anyone buying on the VW PCP scheme decided to pay it off very early (i.e. in the first couple of months) and if they had any issues with VW finance allowing them to do this.

Any help, advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've had a 1.5 TSi mild hybrid since the beginning of June and have now done 6.5k miles in the car including long runs to Stuttgart and Bordeaux.

My previous Superb, five years ago, was a 280 4wd so it is nothing like that but I do not find it under powered at all even with all the ECO options turned on, although when pulling my loaded box trailer I do some times have to switch into Sport while overtaking on inclines.

I've seen 55mpg on some runs but overall it's around 45mpg.

The car is very smooth and quiet with the electric motor smoothing things out when pulling away and on gear changes, also "coasts" on electric only for quite long stretches.

I do miss the plug in facility of my previous car a Peugeot 508SW full hybrid but like having a  place for a spare wheel (instead of just getting in the way on the boot floor!) and the underfloor space more.

Hi,

I used to have a 2 litre L&K Mk3 superb which we loved. In October we changed it for a 1.5 litre SE L which felt very strange at first. I could be accuse of being old fashioned (72 !). I am not conviced about all the functions moving away from actual buttons onto the screen ... but it is growing on me and the actual car drives really well. We noticed a slight difference between the power of the 2 cars for about a week. On shorter journeys to and from town we easily get 30+ mpg (20's on the old one) and on longer journeys easily exceed 45mpg, 52mpg on one trip.

As regards the finance... We took advantage of all the offers that taking finance gave, picked up the car and the following week cancelled the finance! Skoda then sent us an invoice after a couple of weeks which we paid off

in full. Easy! and well worth it for the extras.

I should mention that due to some illness we have not done a lot of mileage in the car and expect the mpg figures above to improve steadily as we do.

Thanks Philsmith and Handyandy, you have answered my questions perfectly and told me exactly what I wanted to hear. I appreciate you taking the time and effort to help me . Buying a new car is a big decision and I (we) want to get it right. Thank you. Hopefully I will be on this forum as an owner before too long.
