Had a quote from a VAG specialist of £2800 for anew mech with gearbox oil and map of the new unit. Had a phone around and no one else can quote me. How does this cost look to everyone? Anyone had it done recently? Mk3 Superb with the 7sp DSG

Could be done cheaper, refurbish your mcu and put new oil with filter.

Have a look at the other posts in this forum. There's plenty of choice 😉.

I’ve read a bit of advice about refurbs not always working and you end up having to get a new one anyway. Is that the garages just trying to charge more you think? 

You're only replacing sensors on the MCU Electronic side. Unless you have a different issue. No need to replace the complete MCU unnecessarily. 

 

The replacements from VAG still have the same sensor, so you could be back to square one after 10k miles again.

So only the sensors break? Nothing else goes wrong? I only get odd gears. No evens or reverse.

Yes K2 sensor broken in this case 

99% from what I've read, this is the issue.

Recently I repaired my mcu board, paid 850€, both sensors replaced, oil and filter.

Thank you all for the above! Don’t mind admitting me and wife been in tears trying to figure out where we’re finding £2800. Calling garages in my area now to see who will fit one of the refurbed ones. 

Get your own one refurbished. It will save in having to have it recoded to your car. Downside is, your car will be without a gearbox for 1 to 2 weeks.

I’ve had a quote now for fitting, oil change and coding for £600 so with the £500 refurbished part it’s looking a lot better than £2800. Thank you all for the help. Is it with holding onto my old one and selling it on?
