dashboard/drive mode discrepancy

Featured Replies

Recently to got a facelift Octavia and wondering if it's "normal" that the selected drive mode and what's displayed on the dash is sometimes out of sync?

Had it in eco for some time and noticed that instead of the expected "E" and speed it suddenly started displaying "D" which is for normal drive mode? Also this morning when in normal drive mode I noticed the dashboard was showing "S" for sport mode?

Is that everyone's experience or do need to take it back to Skoda?

Seeing this on a 2018 1.5 TSI with the 7 speed automatic gearbox.

I would suggest patching the MIB system as a first port of call if you aren't already running 0480 firmware.  I've found that some of the feedback can be a bit laggy otherwise and a good number of systems use the MIB system as a method of passing messages around the CANBUS network.

There is usually a bit of a lack between an select from R into D(i.e. the reversing camera stays on), but if none of that fixes it, then possibly a session with ODIS at a dealer to see if there are any firmware patches for any of the modules.

Thank you, it actually turns out to be expected... The drive mode and the "drive" are different and while the drive mode persist the drive (gearbox mode) resets to normal every single time the car starts...

Also being new to dsg I think I inadvertently flicked the gearbox to sport...

Anyhow sounds like a lame explanation for a software bug or something...

I think you were in DRIVE mode and knocked the selector back to toggle SPORT mode on. Knock it back again and it will toggle back to DRIVE and all will be well.

But you seem to have worked that out yourself.

Just to add to this - whilst I haven't experienced this with my car, there is a bit of a weird thing with my mum's 2022 1.0 Ibiza FR (same box). It'll claim it's in Eco on the infotainment, but it will be in normal/D on the dash. When you put it into Eco 'again', it'll stay in Eco for a bit (with the coasting feature), before swapping back to D. Not sure why it does this, she doesn't really care.

Car mode (Eco, Normal, etc.) is NOT the same as the transmission mode (Eco, Drive, Sport).

Go into Indvidual and you will see a long list of mode options for the different systems.

Yes, however outside of individual mode -

Eco mode (car) is paired to E mode (transmission)

Normal mode (car) is paired to D mode (transmission)

Sport mode (car) is paired to S mode (transmission)

Individual you can do what you want - I personally have everything turned off/in comfort and the steering in sport, for 'motorway mode'.

My point was that the infotainment (and the illuminated mode button) was claiming one thing, whereas the cluster and transmission were claiming another.

Which is quite normal if you e.g. have Normal selected and have tapped the gear selector back to select DSG Sport mode, then the infotainment mode will show Normal but the instruments will show Sport.

I quite often do this when overtaking, then when back on the correct side of the road tap the gear selector back again to return to DSG Drive mode.

Same here, however in this instance I'm talking about the discrepancy being between Normal/Eco and D/E. Outside of the infotainment/entire car mode, you can only go between D and S/M.

On the Ibiza, the mode button is illuminated (meaning eco, sport or individual), the infotainment says Eco, but the dash says D.

That combination simply isn't possible, as you cannot be in Eco mode with the gearbox in Drive (only Eco or Sport).
