Screen doesn't start properly

Featured Replies

Got a weird issue with the screen in my Superb 2nd gen. The buttons do light up and I can see that the screen does as well but it never show anything. Looks like it's restarting over and over again but I could be wrong. I did have a bad battery recently that I've recharged again so the car do start up without any issues again now, not sure if that can be related to the screen in any way. Anyone got an idea on what I could do to fix it? Preferably without having to buy a new screen 😆

I have uploaded a video of it here:

Thanks!

THis is usually result of combination of both HW and SW problem. What is your location?

I'm in Sweden. You mean that I probably need to replace the screen?

Nope, usually it's not an issue of LCD but both radio board (HW problem, dry joints in power circuit) and mainboard (SW).

Cheapest option is probably to buy a used replacement part then. So if I can find this one (both screen & the box behind it) as a used part that should do it, right?

Just had a second thought. If I need to replace it, are there anything better I can replace it with? I wouldn't be sad if I would get for example Android auto and a touchscreen that is better than original.  Are there third party replacements units that are any good that I should look at?

I beleive cheapest option is to have it repaired. If you want a replacement unit, modern one, I recommend MIB STD2 PQ unit.

Is that one made by VAG or is it third party? Did a quick googling and could not find stores that sells it but I found what I think is replacement software for it.

Found these units through another thread on this forum. Any thoughts on those? Looks like a lot of value given the price:

MIB STD2 PQ are original VAG products, they were installed in FL SKODA YETI (from MY15).

Thanks for clarifying that. Couldn't find any for sale around here or on eBay when I checked. Maybe because of the component protection I read about on some website.

Anyone got experience with the third party alternative? Looks like good value, but does it work well and look good when installed? Wife acceptance factor is also important 😆

If you are interested in MIB STD2 PQ unit pls contact me on PM.

You're asking in the wrong thread 😉

I replaced the original unit with one from Eonon. I have two cables from the car that I'm not sure what they are used for. Can someone please help me identify if these are GPS and DAB antennas? If so, which one is GPS and DAB?

Blue is GPS, black is dab

Many thanks! 👍

After removing the trim around the head unit and removing the connector for the airbag warning light below the head unit I now receive an alert for airbag every time I start the car. The only thing I can think of is that it's because of the light was temporary disconnected. How do I clear this? Is it just a matter of clearing the alert via an OBD adapter?

Yes, always disconnect the battery before disconnecting anything to do with airbag to avoid generating a fault.

You'll need something more powerful than a cheap generic OBD adapter to scan the relevant controller and reset the airbag fault e.g. VCDS, obdeleven or Carista

Lucky me, learned something new today  😆

Thanks for your input!
