Compatible prop shafts with MK3 Scout

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I recently bought an ex ambulance 2016 Scout (yes, im new round here), and found out yesterday while it was up on a lift that its missing the propshaft - what are my options for replacement? will only a skoda shaft fit, or can i steal (not literally lol) one from a tiguan/yeti/q3?

So you have a fwd scout? That is quite extreme lol. I wonder why it is missing, problems with rear differential?

Up to 06.06.2016 the part number seems to be 5Q0521101AK and after that 5Q0521101BB. Idk if they are interchangable, but perhaps the numbers and google can give you idea what models share the same shaft, if any.

Hmm - are there any other options? Coz a scout specific shaft costs an arm and leg 🫠

Really hoping there are no differential issues - how would I check it? Just rotate the input/output shafts/wheels and check for roughness/play?

I believe it is same for any awd mk3 octavia, so no 'scout extra' in it. I cant help further, hopefully someone knows more.

I would do the same to try diagnose if the rear differential is OK. And change the oil in it to see how it is. I guess it would also make some noise while driving if something is wrong.

And is the haldex system there? That could have problems also. Any possibility to ask wtf is going on from where you bought it?

I would have a VCDS scan done to ensure that the Haldex controller has not been removed from the "Installation list"

That said I'm not sure that any fault codes would be generated from the lack of a propshaft so there would have been no need of such a measure.

Seller didnt reply to my text (lol)

apparently the couplings can go bad, ambulance service couldve maybe removed the prop shaft to save themselves the hassle? ill give the rear diff a wiggle about, and see if everything spins as it should - not much else i can do im guessing (unless there is?)

While im at it i could also do the haldex service - im assuming plenty of info on that online?

Found a supplier in hungary with a matching propshaft number 5Q0521101BB, just need some money now lol

What do you mean by "is the haldex system there"? what am i looking for? since the diff etc is, well, yknow, there...

The Haldex clutch and the rear diff are two different units.

Between the propshaft and the rear diff there is a Haldex clutch unit that only engages drive to the rear diff when necessary.

Well....

I've attached a photo of the rear diff - it looks like the connection for the prop is there, sooo should be ok?

That's not just the rear diff - that's the rear diff AND Haldex clutch.

Do some reading up - they use different oils and it's strongly advised that you also clean the Haldex filter.

Oho

So they're two separate units, and are serviced separately - I'll look into that

But assuming the diff is ok, it should just be a case of putting the shaft back on? How can I check the clutch, or are they generally reliable

AFAIK you can only check the Haldex once the propshaft is back on and you try driving - there have been a few threads on here about Haldex problems so it's worth doing a search.

Oooooooo boy

So fit the prop shaft, and then start diagnosing.....

Are haldex systems generally easy to sort out if they go bad, or am I in for a bad time?

There are quite a few threads on the Haldex with different problems.  Until you get yours connected you won't know what if any faults there maybe.
