AdBlue tank not reading levels correctly. Non Start Warning

Featured Replies

Hi all! Looking to find some help as I'm tearing my hair out!

Missus comes to me to say AdBlue is running low in our 2019 Skoda Karoq 1.6 SEL, so I top her up and send her on her way. 2 weeks later she says the warning still hasn't gone and there's only 200 miles left. Cool, refilled again.

I take it out to drive a few miles and made sure to wait the 30 seconds switching the ignition on but no engine (usually does the trick to reset the warning) but nothing is getting the warning to go.

Fast forward a few days and whilst driving, the amber warning turns red, saying no start once stopped.

Topped up again to be sure I've topped her up properly. Still nothing. Got the local garage to come down with an OBD Scanner to wipe the non start warning which gave me another 30 miles to play with, but he couldn't reset the AdBlue level unfortunately.

Only thing I can think of that changed is that I bought a 10ltr AdBlue from Costco and used that and since is when the problems have started. Coincidence? Possibly.

Ive tried to siphon out the DEF to see if that would help reset itself, but cant get my hose down far enough into the tank.

I'm now wondering what could be done? Is it a tank replacement? Can i even open up the tank to replace a faulty sensor? If so which? Ive also been advised of a AdBlue delete service local to me at a cost of £250, but would that still pass an MOT?

Skoda want £130 for a diagnostics scan so that's not gonna happen and they won't tell me anything else related to the fault either...

Just don't know how I should take this forward.

Any help would be extremely appreciated! 🙏🏻

When you say you topped up it would be useful to say how much went in.    Was that all the 10 litres that you bought?

Apologies for missing this out. Topped up with just over half, so 5ltrs ish the first time.

Second time I filled her to the top (as I thought there was more needed at the time, but only took a litre, if that)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, in the guide it states clearly that after filling it up you need to turn on the ignition but NOT start the engine and wait for 30 seconds. Turn off the ignition and wait again in order to have the system reset. Now you can turn on the ignition again and start the engine. The 1st ignition on allows the sensor to check the adblue level and reset the memory. After turnig of the ignition you start up again with a cleared memory just informing that the tank is refilled and in your case FULL. I've done it several times and iet works perfectly.

To reset ad blue warning ignition must be turned on for 30 secs without starting engine. Just done mine. Reset no problem. Also won’t reset unless minimum amount added - mine took over 12 litres.

I have followed that exact process many times dietcoke, but to no avail. Potentially looking at a new tank as per 2 garages opinions. Not cheap at all...
