VAG DPF APP Reliability ???

Featured Replies

Hi all hope your all well and your motors to.

Looking for some advice or feedback on the dpf vag app please.

Just how reliable are the figures on the data ??

Reason I ask is I know that historically the DPF tends to regen when the soot mass calc gets to around 20.0.

Now I've been using the app to monitor the running of the dpf and when I check it.

The soot mass calc will say 4.97 so I think I've got a few good miles before I gets close to 20.0 mark for regen and I try and plan it for a longer journey.

Problem is when I get a few yards down the road after checking it at 4.97 the car to my suprise starts to regen. So I immediately pull over and check the soot mass reading again and it's rocketed to like 22.0 in just a few yards from around 4.97.

Am I missing something or am I looking at a dodgy sensor somewhere???

I know my oil ash is high and it will have to be addressed at some point.

Thanks in advance for reading and any advice is very much 👍 👍.

These values are calculated valves. Its all worked on based on pressures, exhaust emissions, time running etc etc. Firstly, get a good tank of Super Diesel (I recommend some Shell V-Power Diesel) into your car and go for an Italian Tune-up - get the car's engine REALLY nice and hot (get those revs higher) and when you feel a re-gen coming in, let it complete...DO NOT SWITCH OFF THE ENGINE. If a Re-gen doesn't happen, you will need to get an ODBEleven or VCDS system and force the car to do a FULL REGEN on a nice hot engine. Hopefully the calculated amount of ash and soot will reduce. If this doesn't happen, you might need to get the DPF cleaned out and then once that is done, reset the calculated valves.

Personally recommend hydra international DPB100 Cetane booster if you run the car on low grade diesel to help keep the DPF, EGR and injectors clean (it works for me), but I will ignite another flame war....

Thanks for reply 👍

Yeah gets an Italian tune a couple of times a week to be fair.

Was told the only real way of getting rid of ASH was have the DPF took off and progressively cleaned??

Maybe cos ash content is high it can only tolerate so much soot then it's rising so quickly.

But thanks again 👍👍

Yes; that is true, but please get the car to do a full forced re-gen first ; see what the calculated values are and if they don't drop, get the DPF cleaned and counters reset.
