Hi recently purchased a 2019 skoda superb 20tdi 150 engine code DFGA55221.

I'm getting conflicting information as what engine oil to use as I'm thinking of a service.

I bought oil below and my mechanic says its wrong oil i should be using 0/w30 not 5/30 . Would appreciate any advice.

Good evening Jimmy, welcome to the forum.

You can use either of the two grades for your engine - the 0-30 grade is purely an attempt by VAG to get a very slightly lower emissions rating for the vehicle. I need to check though on the VW504/507 certification - I thought it was /508 for the TDI. As Arnie said - I'll be back.

I checked the Opie Oil website, according to them the oil you have (5W-30 VW504/507) is correct.

Many thanks warrior.

Much appreciated.

My 2023 2L TDi superb "officially" take 0W30 oil.

However, from my understanding, as long as it is VW504/507 equivalent, either is fine.

If you open the bonnet there should be a sticked just above the grille stating which oil your engine uses, my 2022 TDI 150 (2023 MY) uses 0w-20.

Something in my memory that VAG changed the oil spec around 2019 - 2020. It was purely for a very slight improvement in emissions.

Late 2019 was when the EVO TDI 150PS engine was introduced, perhaps the revised oil spec was introduced for the newer engine specification.

From what I've found on the internet the 0w-20 also gives improved fuel economy and better engine wear reduction at lower temperatures so not purely for emissions improvement.
