Evening! Simple question I hope. My car is shod with the recommended 205/45-16 tyres. I’ve the chance of a set of 4 205/55-16 tyres, would these slightly higher profile be ok safety wise and would they pass an MOT please?

Not a slightly higher profile. Lots higher profile.

The outside diameter of 205/55R16 is far too big for the Fabia MK2. The gearing will be too high, it is likely to rub, and the speedo will under-read.

Outside diameter of tyre

205/45R16 590.9mm

205/55R16 631.9mm (6.9% bigger outside diameter compared to 205/45R16)

When my son got his MK1 it had much bigger tyres that just fitted and no more. It handled terribly. Speedo was way out and was like trying to drive a space hopper. Scared the hell out of me so fitted standard tyres ASAP.
