Mk 4 Jacking Points

Featured Replies

Not long had our 22 plate Fabia and have the ususal no spare wheel and gunk bottle to fill the tyre (will never be used), we intend to get a spare wheel and the OEM jack for emergencies, but searching Google etc i cannot find any video's or even pictures of where it would be jacked up, when i looked under the car it is covered in flat plastic black covers.......... where (with a picutre if possible) would i use the OEM jack or even better a trolley jack with a puck ? Thanks.

I intend to lift the car off the ground to clear behind the wheel arches and the back of the alloy wheels (not the covers have been got rid of), so may be doing this once a month.

Thanks

If you look in "Wheels" in the index of your Owner's Manual, you'll find a "Changing" entry, and that entry provides the following guidance.

(It's worth adding that the reinforced seam on the car's underside that the jack fits on to is (as the 3rd picture shows) well inwards from the door-sill. Don't lift/jack on the door-sill, it's metal is thin gauge and won't tolerate that.)

Thank you i will do that, the majority of the lifting will be done with the trolly jack as it will be for cleaning etc.

Personally, I would use a trolley jack and puck whenever possibly rather than a scissor jack, quicker easier and more stable. But then I rarely had a spare wheel in the boots of my cars for about 20+ years, instead I had a manual foot pump, this could only really be beaten by a totally flat tyre. The foot pump is also useful for others that carry a spare wheel for many years (decades) only to find the time they need it the tyre is either flat or under-inflated for use as the spare wheel and tyre were never checked. If you have a back-up system you need to know it will fully work should it, or when, it's needed.

For the very silly wheel bolts (instead of studs) I thoroughly recommend the use of "wheel alignment tools" when taking a wheel off or putting back on (or rotating wheels) two for each wheel is best, otherwise it is possible to "do yer back in", guess how I know, b****y silly wheel bolts instead of studs.
