There were upgrades to the Škoda App and over the last month a lot of hacking and cyber-warfare going on against many large retail company systems.VAG may also have been a target. That may have caused problems with the roll-out of the server side updates. More likely there was a defect in the server software that needed fixing, and a new version rolled out.

The thing is it is not just one server there will be multiple servers, possibly one per country, so the roll-out may happen over several days. Or in this case it appears several weeks.

But it is possible to communicate that it is know issue. Instead customers had to sit in the dark...

Agreed. However, Corporate VAG is probably thinking "storm in a teacup that will go away in a couple of weeks" without them having to admit they screwed up or that there was a cyberattack.

What VAG corporate (actually most corporate media teams) don't realize is actually standing up and saying we made a **** up will show them in a better light than trying to hide it.

The cover-up is usually more damaging than the original incident.

If it were not for the current level of cyberattacks, I would 100% say it was a defect in the software and or a glitch in updating the servers.
