Vcds help

Featured Replies

Hi guys, was hoping if someone could kindly help me out with plugging vcds to see what may be causing my car to suddenly jolt. Its only just started doing it but hasn't thrown up any error messages on the dashboard.

Ideally someone in Yorkshire area.

Had the car since new and been spot on, until recently, its also started making a rattling knocking noise from the front, which im trying to figure out.

Google dual mass flywheel to see if symptoms match.

Get yourself an ODBEleven system. As good as VCDS.

I agree with this, it's been a godsend for me, plus you can generally get some packs, I got mine as a pack with the reader, magnetic phone holder, VW adaption subscription and 200 mod credits

OBD11 is great but I would stay away from the one-click apps. Take the time to learn the codings and doing them yourself.

I did take a look but the reviews seem decent but not great.

Main reason I was hoping for vcds is because its not got any warning lights on the dashboard but hoping its logged something in the ecu when the car jolted and from what i can see if dont think obd dongle would be any good for this particular issue?

OBD11/OBDEleven is a good alternative to VCDS. Not to be confused with the name of the OBD2 standard :) OBD11 is not a standard OBD2 device. It can do (almost) everything VCDS can do, with a friendlier interface.

It can read fault codes using VW's diagnostic protocol, which sounds like what you're after.

Meh! I have OBD11 and it ain't all that.

The interface is painfully slow and clunky, IMO.

Getting it all going is not a quick as it should be, and it turns what should be a quick check into a bit of an event.

I don't like it.

VCDS is good if your car has CAN protocol, lots of info and tutorials on Ross-Tech website to guide you through. If yours is later UDS protocol ( like my 2016 Superb ) there is precious little info out there which makes it more difficult to know what settings to search for.
