MFD (Multifunction Display) not displaying

Featured Replies

Uneventful trip to the local health centre and back home, on arriving home there was no info in the MFD but there had been on the outward trip.

Is it something that just needs resetting or is it a dealer job?

A couple of times this has happened to me (totally blank screen) and a simple turn off the ignition and re-start has done the trick.

I have tried that (thanks for the suggestion) I am now trying prayer, as I could not find the reset hole for my paperclip ☹️😄

It's often suggested that disconnecting the starter-battery and leaving it disconnected for (say) an hour before reconnecting it MAY cause the MFD to start displaying again. (This ploy worked with my 2009 Roomster.)

However - as you've had a history of bad luck with this car - I suggest you just drive it for a couple of days and see if the MFD spontaneously recovers. If you mess about resetting the system via the infotainment unit (or DIY disconnecting/reconnecting the starter-battery) there's a chance you'll do more harm than good.

If the MFD does not come back to life on its own, best you consult a Skoda dealership.

I don't consider this car has a history of 'bad luck' by any means!

I put diesel in the tank and that issue was quickly resolved: caused by my inattention nothing to do with the car.

Disconnecting the 12V battery should do no harm whatsoever, if done correctly of course, following the instructions in the 'Owner's Manual'. The computers get their panties in a twist and doing the old "switch-it-off 'n' on-agen" by in this case disconnecting the battery my clear this and other unseen computer brain-farts. There's no certainties but it's a very easy, no expense thing to try if you've not got a scan tool and turning the ignition off 'n' on agen serval times and just driving the car hasn't worked. Aren't computers marvellous. 😄

An example from the latest Fabia 'Owners Manual' (July 2025!) - under "12v battery" - "Self-help" -

HTH.

As gumdrop's original enquiry was on 17 June, hopefully he was able to sort out the problem himself by now or have had the problem resolved professionally.

For whatever reason I missed the date - however, as it's less than 3 weeks ago gumdrop may not yet have got to a Dealership appointment or even perhaps other professionals and might still be able to save the time and bother of such and my post was an answer to his prayers, as I've often (not) been described as.

Also of course gumdrop, offthewall, me and you (or you and I) may not be the only viewers to this thread and may have taken the idea that it's bad to DIY disconnect/reconnect the 12v battery, and for this and other reasons, I offered an alternative view backed by the "Simply Clever" (really?) VWŠkoda's official publication.
