Octavia VRs engine oil

Featured Replies

Hi all, was driving home from work last night and the warning message displayed. It said I needed to top the oil up. Checked levels this morning and oil was indeed just below minimum, so went to get some (incidentally the error code didn’t come back on during the short drive to get the oil)

Topped up with half a litre and now looks to be correct levels. My question is should I be worrried about losing oil? Car is 4 years old and only 16k on clock, think it’s been around 8k since oil change. Stupidly I’ve not been checking my levels since owning the car these last 6 months (maybe once early days)

OPEN the bonnet and the warning does not come back on for 100 km / 62 miles.

You do not say if a TDI or TSI, but no matter.

So you have no idea if the correct quantity oil was in 8,000 miles ago.

If a bit low, then it is worked harder.

So you did not check the level after the last service, checked cold and then as you should check,

@ normal operating temperature, so 90*oC os so indicated, parked on the flat and after a few minutes?

Was it just below MIN dipped cold this morning? Now you have put oil in best check next time up to Normal Operating Temperature,

What oil went in, is it 0w 20 FS IV, so to VW508 00 / 509 00 ?

Is it a TDI then?

PS.

Is your car getting Fixed Oil & Filter services, or was that service 8,000 miles more than a year ago?

Thanks, sorry yes tsi petrol. I’ve topped it up with castrol edge , half a litre and now it is in the middle of the dipstick. I will check weekly now and see how much I lose.

So it was VW508 00 / 509 00. TSI is the 508 part of that.

Half way up the Dip stick if checked at operating temp is low and because a warning message on and you only put in 0.5 litres.

Best check when hot.

Yes it’s tsi petrol

Using oil is not losing oil.

Do you do lots of shorter trips with lots of cold starts?

Most of my trips are shorter. With some 10-15 mile trips for work. It looks like my oil Level is now correct so I will check every few weeks and see how it goes.

Go to Euro Car Parts and enter your cars registration. It will tell you what oil to get.

I bought a 1ltr of oil for topping up purposes for about £10, after I noticed it was getting low last time and popped about ⅓ ltr of the existing bottle in last time, which put the oil level right to the top of the indicator.

Halfords is expensive unless they are doing deals or you can find voucher codes. Or are absolutely desperate, also try getting fuel apps as they often have special offers for oils/lubricants.

Or come to Briskoda as many do, say what car and engine you have and the year and you pretty much get told the correct spec. And it is available in Super markets, Discount Stores, local Motor Factors etc. http://opieoils.co.uk good for a checker and service parts.
