Anybody have BT Broadband

Featured Replies

hi guys.

i've finaly got round to getting myself broadband but it's not doing anything. the activation date was today and i've installed all the stuff and it's all connected properly with the filters etc etc

but all i'm getting from the little router thingy is a flashing dsl light. is that normal, shall i wait to see if it sorts itself out, or shall i just throw it out of the window.

ring bt check line is active dsl light should be on permenantly

flashing DSL light means activity on the DSL line usually.

is IE set up to use LAN for connectivity to the internet and have you connected your router to your PC etc etc.

my mates doesnt flash when conected its on permenant or maybe i dreamt that

disregard anything i say from now on it s been a long weekend

yes it is connected to the pc. but it makes no difference wether it's pugged into the pc or not.

the router manager software tells me that the router is handshaking or training depending on when you ask it what is happening.

the light dosn't flash all the time, and it flashes as differnt speeds too.

i dont know very much about routers or bigband and i'm just sizing this thing up as a door stop as i type. or i'll give it a bash with a big hammer or somthing

lights should be on and steady, they flicker during Rx/Tx.

Mine flash when they are first turned on and acquire a line connection, check user names, passwords etc on the router, if wrong it wont connect.

Lights should be as per the manual depending on router make and model.

Tx/Rx should show some activity, esp immediately after establishing a connection. First check with ISP that it's active, then check router settings (username/password/connection settings/firewall). It's undoubtedly not live or a duff router setting.

Can you connect to the router home page (10.0.0.x normally)? If yes, try tracert to something external and see where it stops - that'll be the problem. It's undoubtedly DNS or not getting past the router in this case.

PM if need.

Make sure the router modulation is set to G.DMT (ADSL) if you are on standard ADSL 1.

Yes they flicker during transmit and recieve, hence saying flash when active, eg sending data. :)

Which modem is it? I've experience loads of issues with the 105 models.

BT hardware is not the best to say the least.

have you put filters in all other phone sockets? If not the light flickers...

If the activation date is today then it can be activated at any point in the 24 hour period.

As has already been said check you've got microfilters/splitters in the right places and swap the one on the end of the router. I had a friend today who said their broadband (BT) was playing up and it ended up being the filter.
