Crackle from info screen or ceiling box

Featured Replies

I have 2020 Octavia 150 Se L First Edition. I would welcome comments on the following:

a) from time to time I get a double crackling sound which comes from either the info screen or the overhead box. It appears to be linked in some way to the sound system. Any thoughts/explanations welcome.

b) is it worth getting the car serviced at a Skoda dealer (John Clark Dundee in my case) now that it is 5 years old and only does c.5,000 miles per annum? Would a local garage have the necessary diagnostic equipment?

c) is it worth getting the satnav updated?

d) how do I change the display in the centre of the speedometer and rev counter? At present they are showing miles to empty and the radio station respectively. I am sure they

Many thanks for any help.

The crackling sound is most likely the SOS module; many of us with 2020/21 build cars have needed replacement units to solve it. It’s a known [to Škoda] issue.

Choice of service workshop is a personal thing. If you have any form of warranty then ensure you comply with the terms. Otherwise I would expect any good VAG specialist workshop would have all the s/ware gizmos needed.

Personally I like the built in satnav but many on here prefer to use Waze, Apple Maps, or whatever on the smartphone via CarPlay or Android Auto. Map updates can be downloaded to a USB-C stick and installation is whilst driving around. Several threads on here so have a search.

Or take a look here:

On the street wheel there are chromed rollers/buttons. Click the right side one and you can access the settings to change what is displayed in the centre of the two dials. Scroll up/down and/or use the left/right buttons under the scroll wheel. Click to select the option wanted. It’s not that intuitive but you’ll soon get the hang of it.
