TDI 150 consumption sweetspot

Featured Replies

Hello,

After driving thousands of kilometres in a variety of conditions, I think I've found the best fuel consumption/speed ratio with my Octavia 4 TDI 150 DSG.

On a journey of over 450 kilometres (1/5 road, 4/5 motorway, about 1/4 of the motorway in mountainous areas), I achieve my best fuel consumption by driving at 120 km/h (74 mph) rather than 130 km/h (81 mph).

The score on the on-board computer fluctuates between 3.9 and 4 l/100 km (±71 mpg), so I think you have to add 0.3 l/100 in real terms.

My best fuel consumption is 3.7 l/100 km (76 mpg - on-board computer) over 400 kilometres on almost flat terrain, on a road with a speed limit between 80 km/h and 110 km/h.

What are your best fuel consumption figures with this engine?

If that's the 1.9 arl engine it's the same as I have in my 2nd car, a mk4 golf gttdi 150. It's a 6 peed manual and I don't often work out the tank to tank mpg but when I do it's always high 60's. The trip computer usually averages 70 ish. The car is totally standard now, it wasn't when I bought it. It had 18" wheels and a daft remap which was all top end, it had no pull until over 3200 rpm and then was a rocket. That blew the turbo so it got a standard turbo and standard map installed along with standard 16" wheels.

It's the 4 cyl. 2,0 l/110 kW (4V) TDI CR.

Yup it's the 2 liters engine.

Mine is a 1.9 pd so yours probably a newer engine if it's a 2.0
