Superb or Kodiaq?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have had a 19 plate Karoq 1.5 petrol SEL automatic for past two years. I've enjoyed the car and still got 3 years extenda Skoda warranty but it's getting a little cramped in the back for my son (already 5,10 at 13 years old) plus wife, daughter and spaniel (who usually sits in the middle of the rear seats), even with a roof box. The depreciation is really depressing: bought for £18,000 and been offered between £11 and 12000 P/E. Thinking of upgrading to either the Karoq or the Superb and spending around £6-8,000, hopefully on a good finance deal. We only do about 7000 miles a year, mostly really short journeys (1-4 miles) plus fair few family holidays, some of them camping. Not used for commuting. I've driven both on test drives. Enjoyed both, probably leaning towards the Kodiaq as slightly more fun and versatile although doubt we will use the 7 seats much and the Superb is less thirsty and cheaper to buy. So questions:

--superb or kodiaq? I've also looked at the Octavia and Enyaq but not convinced either gives us more space than the Karoq. Should I consider a Passat (quite a bit cheaper than Superbs currently presumably as more of them). I've read one thread on here in which most prefer the Superb to the Kodiaq but my usage may differ.

--which engine? Thinking of going for the 1.5 petrol again but open to full or mild hybrid. Too many short journeys for diesel. There seems quite a lot of full hybrid Superbs in my price range. I don't really want to lose the boot space but could save a fair amount if I went for a plug in version (we're lucky enough to have a drive and plan to get solar panels). Mild hybrids seem out of my price range.

--trim levels. SEL ideal but SE more in my price range. I value the heated leather seats and the reversing camera in my Karoq and having a hard time working out if I can get an SE with either of these. Some SEs seem to have Park Pilot but not a camera. Is that nearly as good? I like the camera especially for reversing out of my driveway. I see from other chats here that I could install a camera for about £500, although my SKODA dealer not interested in fitting.

--any thoughts on warranty options?

Many thanks in advance for any thoughts.
