chassis Number and audi/vw

Featured Replies

hi all,

im wondering why when i have called vw and audi for brake parts that they cant find my car by its chassis number. currently im getting a little worried by this.

i have the v5 thingy and all seems legit but why cant they find my car?

kenny

Have you checked the V5 matches the car ? could be a typo on the V5.

oh i havent checked that actually.

couldnt find it by reg plate either

There should be a tag on the top of the dash or showing through the lower endge of the windscreen. That is the number you need.

Take it to a police station and ask them to investigate the matter? :D

ill do that next

ill check that and the V5 match 2nite. i hope nothing is wrong

Do the seats in the front have a different trim to those in the back?

lol nope everything looks fine! audi have serviced it twice too

Could your insurance company find it by reg number when you took out a policy? :D

Chris

Go here:

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/?SKIN=directgov

And choose "vehicle enquiry" from the left hand options. If you cant find it there I'd get worried ;)

Make sure the "date of liability" matches when your tax disc expires. If the date shown is more than 12 months ago start to get very very worried ;)

not helping here...lol

do i need to call the dvla 1st?

seems odd they issue a log book for a correct car but their chassis number doesnt macth any car

Does the engine number on the log book match the car?

Hi Kenny

Dont think for 1 sec that VAG are always right.

I have known them to be wrong and I have had to do warranty claims on cars that do not match their ID`s

Like Goochie said check your log book with the number on your car.

Dear Mr Big's Shower Toy,

I think you are being unduly alarmed. Check the V5 against the chassis number. Couple of courses of action for you.

Contact DVLA - when I had my RS it was on the V5 as a TDI, contacted them and they changed it

or

Run an HPI check on it

or

Contact the dealer you bought it from. If it wasn't a dealer, you did do the HPI prior to purchase didn't you?

i dont have the log book with me so will check when i get home.

the vin on the car audi can find

the vin on my log book no car comes up

so the log book seems to be wrong

i will have to check the engine number.

anyone had this before? im not sure what to do

If you want to PM me the info i'll tell you if its important or not.

I would think that is was jut inputted wrong on the log book by the DVLA. Its quite simple to change this.

right it appears i have an extra 4 digits on the log book vin number.

for some reason i have 20 or 21 digits instead of the 17 your meant to have

typo error?

Remember the DVLA is in Wales ;)

well i just called the DVLA they couldnt help me with anything at all. what i have to do is send the from back with a letter explaining it all, then they will check it out.

the vin numbers are the same but for som reason they have added an extra 3 in.

they were most unhelpfull to be honest :(
