Media (on info centre) has stopped playing all of a sudden - iPod tracks recognised and navigable, just won't play

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Just this: I have an ipod plugged into USB, it stays in all the time and normally I can navigate to find tracks and it plays them when selected. Today, it stopped being able to play them. I changed nothing, but now it just sits in play mode without actually playing. I can select pause and play by touching the screen icons, navigate among tracks, all that, but it won't play. I tried removing and reconnecting the ipod, taking the key out of ignition and returning, selecting other tracks ... no change. On its own, the ipod behaves quite normally. Plugged into the car's USB socket It had played just fine for about a year. Anyone got any idea what has gone wrong?

Thanks. TT.

SOLVED (I think).

It seems the problem was likely a glitch in communication between CarPlay and the iPod (see https://support.apple.com/en-gb/102521 ).

I restarted the iPod following the video (it's very fiddly):

Then I stated the media console with no USB plugged in and let it settle.

Then plugged the iPod back in and it worked.

I had a cassette player for 20 years, never failed, then a CD changer for 16 years, never failed, now this digital nonsense and it glitched in one year, but at least I was able to sort it out (for now, anyway).

I hope others having difficulty with apple storage devices and car play can be helped by my post.

Thanks,

TT.
