Back in a Skoda - 2026 Enyaq 85x Sportline.

Featured Replies

After 3.5 wonderful years with my Golf R Estate, I've given up the car allowance and ordered a new Enyaq Sportline Company Car. The Golf is fantastic, but I couldn't live with the 42% deductions on the car allowance, the low-20s MPG (sometimes sub 20 in traffic) the 99 ron fuel, the £900 a year insurance cost etc etc etc.

It's coming in Jan, it's Meteor Grey, I wanted Racing Blue, but my allowance just wouldn't stretch that far, otherwise standard facelift Sportline so I'm delighted it comes with Canton, heating wheel and a couple of other things I wasn't expecting.

Haven't even driven one, I've sat in one in the showroom, but Skoda Cardiff didn't seem to want to talk to me despite me kicking the tyres for 20 mins. I did buy my Superb from them, but that was a good few years ago. I'm expecting a Superb like experience, but quieter, less engaging (somehow) but mostly, once I've got a home charger installed and switch tariffs I'd like to stop having to spend £300+ a month on fuel. All told, it's going to save me £500 a month, at least until they change their mind on tax rules etc.

Interesting to read and very similar to my situation. I currently run a Superb 280 which like your Golf is excellent in all respects except one, running costs. I never considered having a BEV or PHEV since my one test drive a few years ago consisted of a brief run in an early Passat GTE which I recall felt like driving a fully loaded car (even though there was just me and the salesman in it) due to the weight.

Back in August my Superb was in for service and I was offered a drive in a demo Enyaq 85X. The acceleration I found to be similar to the Superb from start off (0 to 60 about 6 seconds) and up to the legal limit (so the range which matters). So the Enyaq can 'only' do 112mph as opposed to the Superbs 155mph. Well, I've never driven the Superb on the Autobahn or race track so what does that matter? I accept that the Enyaq doesn't handle like a GTI but its way better than the Passat I mentioned above. Then it came to the running costs. Currently £80 a time for 99 RON unleaded is expensive on a weekly basis. With a home charger installed I'll be looking at about £10 in electricity costs to get a similar mileage. No contest really. I was quoted 6 months for a factory order on an 85X, mine should arrive in time for the 26 plate early next year.

Enjoy guys, only got a 60 but I love driving it so I’m sure you’ll like the 85x.

Running costs are amazing, 👍

Had an update from Skoda that mine is coming early Jan, possibly late Dec so that's nice.

I'm mostly looking forward to it, it's hard not to sound a bit spoilt being a bit half-hearted about a brand new car and a nice spec one at that, but I'll miss my Golf. Not helped that I'm doing it because of the break down of my marriage and needing to save any money I can.

You won’t miss filling the Golf with petrol.
