Tailgate not opening

Featured Replies

On 3 or 4 occasions now on my mk4 L&K tourer the tailgate won't open when pressing the release button. I just get no response at all, and nothing from the fob tailgate button or waving the foot under the rear bumper either. The release button on the drivers door will release the catch, but not open the actual tailgate. On occasions when it hasn't worked, I've had to go into the boot via the rear seats. If I try again later (or next day), it works perfectly ok.

It's all a bit frustrating, so I'm wondering if this is a known issue or if I need to contact dealer service.

Thanks

Hi, I had a similar 'fault' earlier in the year. You feel like a total berk waving your foot around praying for it to open!

My dealer had it in and diagnosed a faulty 12v battery. I was very sceptical, but the battery was changed and hey presto, the tailgate operation was perfect.

Another strange effect was that suddenly the tailgate struts were MUCH smoother/quieter in operation.

Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up - I'm not going mad then! The car is only 10 months old, so it sounds like it might be worth contacting the dealer and seeing what they say.

I'm assuming you mean the main 12v battery in the non-PHEV (this is the TDI 190)

Yes. Good luck.
