Now that i have almost finished re-decorating myself and the wifes bedroom i am looking for a finishing touch of a small flat panel TV on the wall probably at the end of the bed.

I don't want to spend a lot and guess i will be limited to 15" and 17" screens.

Has anyone got any suggestions???

Cheers:thumbup:

I would say that a 15" TFT is actually a bit too small for a TV in the bedroom.

If you can stretch to it I would prehaps look for a 19" model or a 17" otherwise. I know that at some point 17" moitors/TV combos were around the

I think you are possibly right about the 15" ones, however it was not so long ago that a lot of people had 14" CRT TV's just for in their bedrooms. I would probably only be 6 ft away from it when watching but i would like to get a 17" if i can. Ebuyer are selling some "grade a" stock Beko 17" widescreens for
I wouldnt buy a combi anything. if the drive breaks you will have to buy a dvd player anyway and your left with a stupid non functioning slot on the tv.

Normally i would agree with you 100%, everything in my living room is seperates but if i am putting a TV on the wall in my bedroom then it seemed to make sense to get one with a built in DVD perhaps as otherwise where will the standalone DVD player go??????

Also whats the difference between HDMI and DVI???

I know they are both something to do with connecting HD sources but are they compatible with each other???

Tesco do some decent cheap LCD's, I got a 15inch Aiwa for about £170 around six months ago. I know it's not a great make but I don't use mine all that much and I think the PQ is fine, it's running from the RF2 from my Sky+.

Other bonus with Tesco is that you can take the thing back without hassle if you're not happy for ANY reason and for a decent amount of time too.

Just remember to budget £20ish for a bracket to wall mount it. And if you don't have access to the other side of the wall, then channel the wires into the plaster for a nice neat look.

Post some pics when you're installing!

Oh, and have a butchers at AVForums.com, very handy.

I think....

HDMI - High Definition Media Interface

DVI - Digital Video Interface

HDMI looks a bit like a USB and carries video and audio through a digital system

DVI carries only video so you also require separate audio cables.

Yes you can get a lead that goes from DVI to HDMI (or the other way?) but again, you will need the audio cables..

If you want to save cash and not that bothered about widescreen get yourself a normal LCD monitor and a free view digibox with the vga outputs and others too, some are HD compliant and cost about 20 snots from ebay, get your self some mini speakers from maplin, better pictures and sound than any 200 squid TV. You'll need 3 plugs and cost a fortune in lecy but you wont be squinting in bed.....I say bed coz that were mine is and I havent had a good squing in ages....

This thread is redundant now anyway.

After searching all evening i have bought a 32" LCD HD ready TV for under

Good work - which 32" did you go for?

Steve

Rob, it seems we are living parallell lives..... first we go out and buy a pair of Octavia Elegances, then we get them remapped by Jabba, next we lower them, then we start on the DIY, then we spend £600 on a 32" HD ready LCD TV having started out looking for a smaller, cheaper one:eek:

I got an LG for £599 because it was last years' model. Previously seen at £1300 around xmas

That's right and the viewable area of a 14" CRT is just over 13 inches.

the LCD panel in it is manufactured by one of the market leaders in flat panel technology and the specs look very good to me.

Have seen a few of 'em up and running, you won't be disappointed. :)

Rob.
