Fuel Tank primary pump - silence

Featured Replies

Good morning Yeti owners!
I've recently been having problems with my 2.0L Tdi 4x4 Yeti starting from cold. I find I have to crank it for 3 4 seconds before it starts and to get around it, I blip start it for half a turn then off then start it again and it fires up no issues. Almost like there is no initial fuel pressure.
I've owned a few VW diesels and you can always hear the fuel pump coming to life as soon as you put the key in the ignition.
My question to other Yeti diesel owners is this. Can you hear your fuel pump coming to life before you start cranking??
Mine is silent.

Wouldn't be surprised if it is the fuel pump.

I had two in my 2017 Yeti, fortunately both were under warranty.

Other thing to check is, when was the fuel filter last changed?

Easy job to do & not expensive. Get a Bosch one off ebay. .

Cheers.

What were the symptoms of your fuel pump failing?

I changed my fuel filter after first noticing it was hard to start.

Hi BY

The fuel gauge started to mess about with it's readings.

Then a couple of times the car took a time to start. As I couldn't hear the pump run.

Dealer fitted new fuel pump, as they found a bad connection.

That one gave up six months later. Same problem.

If you are paying for it, it's not cheap, so you will want to know that it is faulty first.

Well just to respond to your specific question, I have never been aware of my fuel pump making noise ( 2.0 TDI ). I have heard ignition-on pre-cranking running fuel pumps on other vehicles I've owned but never on the Yeti.

BY, just thinking on.....

Have you had the fuel injectors checked out.

When cold, there needs a few seconds, (about 8-10 seconds) to activate & heat up before you start the engine.

PS..

Next time, turn on ignition. Wait minimum of 8 seconds then start the engine.
