Coil Pack worries

Featured Replies

Been hearing a lot about coil packs, and reading through the searches etc, notice that they are prone to failure.

I have a 52 octy vrs on 100k, are these something that I should be wary of enough to buy a spare? There are mentions of recalls etc, was this a recall, if not but they do fail, is it something that Skoda should sort out for me even though the normal warranty has expired?

Thanks

Briefly.......

If one fails they will probably replace it FOC but this is now on a case-by-case basis.

There was no recall as such but they did replace faulty batches if you took your car in for a service and they found one of the early ones.

If the car has a Skoda service history, dont worry about it.

Do a search, it has been covered many, many times before.

EDIT: Read this thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/general-car-chat/ignition-coil-update/4286/?highlight=coil+packs

but do note that it was started on 24th September 2003.

If your car has done 100K on the original 'dodgy' coil packs, any failure now is more likely to be down to normal wear and tear than manufacturing defect. Buy one as a spare if you are worried - which I wouldn't be in your case.
