Fuel mapping issue??

Featured Replies

I've owned my 2021 Skoda Octavia vrs 245 tsi manual since the start of September. I've noticed since day 1 that the when in normal mode the car is not smooth when changing between first and second gear and second and third. I also find that if I lift of the throttle in first the vehicle will become "jumpy."

Changing the mode to Eco does seem to smooth everything out a bit and the issue seems slightly worse now in the colder weather.

I normally only do short journeys if this could be part of the issue?

Any ideas what it could be or is this completely normal?

How many miles has it done, and is there a service history and a record of the spark plugs having been replaced? When?

46k miles with full Skoda service history up to when I bought it at 44k. I don't think the plugs have been changed but would need to double check.

The Full Service History is great, so it should show if the Manufacturers Service Guidelines, Scheduled / Advised servicing was done and the plugs changed at 40,000 miles / 4 years. That is the beauty of a FSH, it shows what is not done as well as what was. Maybe the Air filter needs looked at, as they might have followed the ridiculous schedule of @ 6 years / 60,000 miles and never checked it.

So looking at the service record print out. Last service was at 43559miles. Inspection with oil chance and the only additional work is dust and pollen filter. Likely air filter or spark plugs have been done.

Any recommendations for spark plugs?

Has the DSG oil been serviced, sound more like jerky shifting from what you described that rough engine running. if definitely should be smooth, my car feels like an auto just driving around in normal mode. To check the gearbox you could put the car in eco and then use the toggle to put the box in sport mode. If you get the same symptoms despite the eco map (and I assume the fuelling isn’t different in eco it’s just going to be the throttle mapping and gearbox shift points) then it suggests it’s the gearbox

OP said in his initial post that it's a manual, not DSG - otherwise I would agree with your diagnosis.

"Likely" is open to interpretation! Especially if the dealer hasn't listed them... 😊

Personally, I would check the air filter and clean/replace as necessary and change the plugs so that you know they are good.

I would recommend NGK.

If the additional work to an Oil & Inspection service at 43,559 miles is a Cabin / Pollen filter likely the Spark Plugs were not changed. They are additional work at it is a Full Service History, so should say what is done. Was the Brake fluid changed at 3 years or even @ 4 years?

Sorry meant likely they haven't been done since not listed.

Yes the brake fluid was serviced year 3 @ 36k miles.

Probably best bringing the car to my mechanic and getting a good once over.

Sounds like a good idea, at least then you know where you're at with the vehicle going forward.

IME if the dealer hasn't listed it, as @Evolution13 said, it more than likely hasn't been done.

Unusual as the dealers usually like to gouge you for every possible item, even if perhaps it wasn't required....

Good independent mechanics that know what they're doing and like to retain customers are usually more honest and reliable, whereas main dealers just seem to be out for every penny they can charge you (regardless of brand).

Whoops, what an idiot, I keep thinking in terms of the 4.5 which are all DSG 🙃
